ArtWalk Downtown Billings opened its 23rd season with a Spring ArtWalk on May 5. Multiple art galleries, studios, museums, non-profit organizations and other “art-friendly” venues welcomed visitors to chat with artists, view and purchase their work and celebrate the creative spirit that thrives in downtown Billings.
Events for the remainder of the 23rd Season include the Summer ArtWalk on August 4, Autumn ArtWalk on October 6, Holiday ArtWalk on December 1, 2017 and Winter ArtWalk on February 2, 2018. Refreshments and music are offered at many locations.
In 1994, a small, visionary group of artists and gallery owners on Montana Avenue began ArtWalk when they opened their doors on selected Friday evenings to welcome art patrons, share a beverage, talk about and purchase art. Over the years, ArtWalk has captured the imagination of Billings residents and visitors. Some locations are standing room only, including the Toucan Gallery, affectionately known as the “birthplace of the Billings ArtWalk.”
Mother Nature usually looks kindly on ArtWalk and sends us balmy weather, no matter the season. Even so, ArtWalk winter temperatures sometimes dip below zero. Not to worry! ArtWalk is weather resistant; its artists and patrons are hearty folks. Challenging the weather becomes part of the fun!
In 2014, ArtWalk formalized a working agreement with the Downtown Billings Alliance to strengthen and add structure to the event, although it remains a member-led organization.
Artists across Montana and northern Wyoming look to ArtWalk Downtown Billings as a destination event where they can reconnect with old friends and be introduced to new audiences.
Photos and gallery notes are posted on Facebook.com/billingsartwalk and at www.artwalkbillings.com prior to each event. On-line maps are published the week of each event at www.artwalkbillings.com and billings365.com. Printed maps are at each location on ArtWalk nights and in the weekly Billings Visitor’s Guide.
