Billings Clinic Specialty Pharmacy recently earned accreditation with both the Utilization Review Accreditation Commission and the Accreditation Commission for Health Care, making it the only accredited specialty pharmacy located in Montana.

Billings Clinic Specialty Pharmacy focuses on the pharmaceutical care of chronic, rare or complex conditions that require specialty medications. Specialty medications typically require special handling, administration or monitoring beyond that which a traditional retail pharmacy can provide. The Specialty Pharmacy works to ensure appropriate medication use, promote adherence, and provides patients with education through counseling and medication therapy management to help simplify care and ensure the best possible treatment outcomes. Billings Clinic Specialty Pharmacy works with 14 specialty clinics and provided care to more than 700 patients in 2018.

The URAC accreditation process demonstrates a commitment to quality services and serves as a framework to improve business processes through benchmarking organizations against nationally recognized standards. URAC accreditation requires applicants to submit policies, procedures and other organizational information that is followed by a review. URAC’s accreditation process enables learning and compliance with nationally recognized health care standards and supports improvements and innovation in health care management and delivery.

Accreditation by ACHC reflects Billings Clinic’s dedication and commitment to meeting standards that facilitate a higher level of performance and patient care. It also signifies the organization’s commitment to remaining compliant with industry standards and best practices, containing costs, and practicing performance improvement.

Billings Clinic Specialty Pharmacy is a member of the Excelera Specialty Pharmacy network, a member-owned, national network of health systems and academic medical centers focused on optimizing care for complex patients through specialty pharmacy collaboration. Formed in 2012, the network includes many of the largest and most advanced integrated delivery networks with specialty pharmacies in the U.S.

The network provides members nationally scaled infrastructure and support, clinical and operational best practices, and leverage to gain access to limited-distribution drugs and restricted payer agreements so members can provide continuity of care for their patients with complex and chronic conditions requiring specialty drugs and biologics. The network also serves as a national platform for collaboration to optimize outpatient specialty drug therapy for population health.
