While working on a succession plan for a new executive director, the Montana Rescue Mission board joined the Friendship House of Christian Service board’s efforts to establish a deeper level of collaboration in nonprofit management, by creating the Billings Leadership Foundation as a local expression of the worldwide network of Leadership Foundations.
The collaborative approach was first established in 2014 by Friendship House leadership. The BLF exists to fulfill the three functions of a Leadership Foundation:
- Engaging leaders of good faith and will
- Building the capacity of others
- Developing joint programming initiatives
With the new level of collaboration, Matt Lundgren was named executive director of BLF and will oversee the management MRM and FHCS. This is not a merger, but is a shared management agreement and structure.
Lundgren previously served at FHCS, where he grew programs, facilities, services for the community impact.
Lundgren was ordained as a Lutheran pastor in 1992 and has served in youth work, college student ministry, Young Life and as a parish pastor. Lundgren also brings experience from education, retail, and construction to his role of BLF executive director.
He received a master's of divinity degree from Lutheran Brethren Seminary in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, and graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in English secondary education from the University of Wisconsin in Eau Claire.
