Jennifer Mercer, executive director for the past six years of the Historic Billings Depot, announced Tuesday she will leave her job by March 2018.
According to a news release from The Depot’s board of directors, the board will begin searching immediately for Mercer’s successor. She will stay on during the hiring process to help with the transition.
The Depot, at 2310 Montana Ave., has, along with other properties in the neighborhood, experienced major revitalization in the past few years. “The Polar Express,” the fundraiser recently concluded at the Depot, was once again sold out.

“None of what we have accomplished here at the Depot would be possible without our community coming by our side,” Mercer said. “Today we have a financially sustainable, thriving place where our community can gather and make memories together.”
Directing operations at The Depot “has never been a job for me,” she said. “It truly is a passion to help people remember why keeping our history alive is important.”
She said she plans to begin her own job search this week, adding she’s “excited to work with the next person who will continue to ingrain The Depot into the hearts of our residents and generations to come.”
