Billings Police Officers Glenn Gunther and Ben Milam were recently promoted to the rank of sergeant. Their first assignment will be in the patrol division.
The promotions are a result of the retirement of Capt. Kevin Iffland and the impending retirement of Assistant Chief Joel Slade.
Gunther joined BPD in December of 2007. In addition to his duties as a patrol officer, he is a physical fitness instructor, firearms instructor, drug recognition expert, certified bike officer, Honor Guard member, and has been recognized for the last three years with the DUI Award.
Milam joined BPD in March of 2009. In addition to his duties as a patrol officer he is a certified bike officer, field training officer, firearms instructor, member of the SWAT team, and was named officer of the year in 2014.
Stepping into his new role, Milam will be taking a lead role the firearms program for the department.
Gunther and Milam will be filling the movements of Sgts. Justin Jagers and Shane Sheldon. Jagers was assigned to the City County Special Investigations Unit as result of the promotion of Lt. Brandon Wooley. Sheldon was assigned to the Investigations Division as a result of the promotion of Lt. Brian Krivitz.
