County commissioners and other county officials from Eastern Montana attended the County Commissioners Certification Training in Helena, a program provided in December by Montana State University's Local Government Center in conjunction with the Montana Association of Counties. The training included sessions on budget, finance and taxation, intergovernmental relations, human resource management, special boards governance and governing philosophy.

Commissioners earn certification after completing 40 hours of instruction over a two-year period.

Montana county officials (all are commissioners unless noted) who received certification include Frank DePriest of Blaine County, John Grewell of Carbon County, Vicki Hamilton and Keith Holmlund of Custer County, Sandra Youngbauer of Fergus County, William R. Lehfeldt of Golden Valley County, Jeff LaVoi of Hill County, James Moos of McCone County, Deanna Bockness of Prairie County, Shane Gorder and Clerk and Recorder Stephanie Verhasselt of Richland County, Doug Martens of Rosebud County, Gerald Dell of Stillwater County, and Bill Wallace of Sweet Grass County. Also attending the certification training was Commissioner Sidney Fitzpatrick of Big Horn County.
