EBMS recently named Dr. Andrew Murray as chief medical officer and president of its innovative miCare and miRx health care solutions. He joined EBMS on Oct. 1.
Murray most recently served as vice president responsible for population health management and clinical services at CareAllies, a Cigna-owned population health management startup, where he worked with health care providers to ensure their success in value-based arrangements. At Cigna, he has also focused on payer-provider partnerships with hospitals, physician groups and other value-chain partners.
Before joining Cigna, Murray served in senior leadership roles with Discovery Health, a leading multinational insurance company, as chief operating officer for Ping An Health, and as deputy general manager for DiscoveryCare, a managed care organization serving about 3 million members from 12 leading health plan clients.
After completing his medical training at Stellenbosch University’s School of Medicine, Murray practiced medicine in the United Kingdom and South Africa. He subsequently earned his master’s degree in business administration with a concentration in health sector management from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business in North Carolina.
During his early career practicing medicine, Murray worked as an emergency-room doctor, served as flight doctor for International SOS and volunteered as a flight doctor for a helicopter ambulance service affiliated with a major trauma center.
In his new role, Murray will be a member of the EBMS executive team as a strategic partner offering a medical perspective on plans to expand products and services. Dr. Todd Ragar, miCare medical director, will continue to provide medical oversight for miCare working directly with Murray on strategic business directions. Under Murray’s leadership, the miCare and miRx teams plan to continue to integrate delivering high-quality, cost-effective care solutions that improve lives through a coordinated approach that also provides innovative cost transparency.
