An article written by Rocky Mountain Hospice chaplain Sandra McKee was published in the December issue of "Presence: An International Journal of Spiritual Direction," the professional journal of Spiritual Directors International.
McKee's article is titled, "Listening to Native Americans: Hearing the Deeper Story" and addresses the complex grief issues unique to Native Americans. These issues include transgenerational trauma, family and social violence, unresolved grief, cultural or soul loss and the use of rituals in grief. McKee has provided spiritual care to patients from five Native American reservations in Montana. In addition to being a chaplain for Rocky Mountain Hospice, McKee is also a licensed clinical professional counselor, retreat leader and spiritual director who grew up on the Blackfeet Indian Reservation in rural northwest Montana.
