AOL broadband draws subscribers

A year after becoming chief executive at America Online, Jonathan Miller is seeing some progress. The AOL Time Warner unit's 6-month-old "AOL for Broadband" service has gathered 300,000 subscribers, according to the Wall Street Journal. And more than 1 million more have signed up for additional paid add-ons, including voicemail and virus protection.

The profile of AOL's Miller casts him as a thoughtful executive who listens to staffers, asking them to think through their strategies rather than respond to competitors' moves. "My strength isn't leading cheerleader rallies," Miller said. "If you want to get into the big questions and strategy, I'm pretty good at that."
