The Billings Youth Orchestra (BYO) will kick off the holiday season with a joint orchestra performance of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s lively “Sleigh Ride” at a 3 p.m. concert, Sunday, Nov. 24, at Skyview High School, 1775 High Sierra Blvd., Billings.
The BYO Repertory Orchestra, under the direction of Randy Tracy, will perform Symphony No. 1 in C Minor by Felix Mendelssohn. The Young Artists, conducted by John Pesky, will perform “Allegretto” from Symphony No. 7 by Ludwig van Beethoven, and “Allegro Giocoso” from Symphony No. 4 by Johannes Brahms.
Conducted by Lindsey Selman, the BYO Concert Orchestra will perform “Secret Agent Sugar Plum,” an arrangement of a Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky favorite\; Symphony No. 8, “Third Movement”, by Johann Stamitz\; and A Modal Festival, by Gerry Jon Marsh. With the BYO Preludio Strings, under the direction of Barbara Kirk, the orchestra will perform “Red Pepper,” by Jeffrey S. Bishop. The Preludio Strings also will present The Russian Music Box by Soon Hee Newbold, and themes from The Nutcracker Suite by Tchaikovsky. The BYO Repertory Winds, under the direction of Sue Logan, also will perform.
A dessert reception will follow the concert. Tickets are $15 per person and can be purchased at the door or in advance at Kirk House of Music, 1530 24th St. West, Billings.
