The Buffalo Bill Center of the West has put photographs of more than 20,000 items from its artifact collection online, and now you can curate your own collection from the massive archives.
Visitors to the website can browse everything from old Buffalo Bill Wild West Show posters to a beautifully decorated buckskin shirt that belonged to Sioux chief Red Cloud.
At the collection home page — collections.centerofthewest.org, visitors can type in a search to begin creating their own collection. To save an item to a collection, simply click on the plus sign in the upper lefthand corner of the photograph.
After amassing a collection, click on My Exhibit on the lefthand side of the page. That will allow you to save the items and write comments under each of your selections.
In the future you can return to your collection and add to it by clicking on Virtual Exhibits on the lefthand side.
The site allows the curator to write an exhibit introduction and notes on each object. Comments and questions can also be posted about any of the objects in the collection.
And you can share your collection through social media such as Facebook.
