'I and You'

Alexis Cooper and Ben Sholar play friends working on a poetry project in Backyard Theatre's "I and You."

"I and You," an ode to life by Laura Gunderson, is being staged by Backyard Theatre from Friday through Sunday.

Directed by Chris Kellison-Decker, the play tackles love, life and the strange beauty of human connections.

Anthony, Played by Ben Sholar, is the athletic popular student. Caroline, played by Alexis Cooper, hasn't been to school in months because she is ill. Anthony arrives at Caroline's house with a beat-up copy of Walt Whitman's "Leaves of Grass." The two let their guards down and share secrets, turning the poetry project into a much deeper mystery.

Rebekah Kellison-Decker is the assistant director, and Peri Russell is the stage manager.

Backyard Theatre is a donation-based theater located at 3724 Gymnast Way. The best parking is on Decathlon and Stillwater Drive with entry through the back gate. Donations help keep the productions going. 

Bring a lawn chair, snacks and a beverage. Performances are at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Sept 8-9. and 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 10.
