Montana-bred showman Evel Knievel flies high again in a new biography from Leigh Montville.

“EVEL: The High-Flying Life of Evel Knievel: American Showman, Daredevil, and Legend” (Doubleday) takes an imtimate look at the stuntman who was as controversial as his career was flamboyant.

From jumping Idaho’s Snake River Canyon on his motorcycle to his troubled personal life, the book examines the man who was raised in Butte. Montville was a columnist for the Boston Globe and writer for Sports Illustrated and wrote “Ted Williams, The Big Bam” and “At the Altar of Speed.” The book goes on sale on Tuesday.
