NOVA Center presenting 'The Vote'
NOVA Center for the Performing Arts opens 2021 with "The Vote," a story recalling the “first lady of Congress,” Montana’s own, Jeannette Rankin. The play, written and directed by DeLaney Hardy Ray, from Billings, will be recorded in order to be seen virtually, and a small number of in-person tickets will be sold. The production opens Friday, Feb. 19, running through Sunday, Feb. 21, and continuing the following weekend Feb. 26 - 28. Ticket prices are $21 for adults, $16 for seniors and military, and $10 for students.
The play presents Rankin’s (Brenna Brockel) first days in office as Montana’s congresswoman. Being the first woman to serve in a national office is not Rankin’s only claim to fame. A fiery and independent woman filled with integrity, she was willing to fight for issues that did not please everyone.
"The Vote" stands as the annual production of “The Rankin File” at NOVA. One play is presented every year at NOVA that is written, directed, or acted by women. This year, NOVA is proud to have a Montana “team” with a snippet of Rankin’s full life written and directed by a female playwright. Whether you watch at home or are able to come in person, you will find this play resonates with contemporary issues.
