Venture Improv

For the second year in a row, the performers of Venture Improv puts their comedy chops on the line Saturday, March 4, when they take on two other Montana-based improv groups for bragging rights.

The Improv Open has expanded to a two-day event on March 3 and 4 at NOVA Center for the Performing Arts.

The comedy begins Friday night with a showcase of NOVA’s teen improv troupe, The Funky Bunch, and continues on Saturday with a competition between Venture Improv of Billings, Bozeman's Improverts, and Missoula's Gingers on Ice.

Doors open at 7 p.m. both nights and the festivities begin at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for each night or $15 for both. To purchase tickets, call NOVA’s box office at 406-591-9535, visit www.NOVAbillings.org or go to the performing arts center at 2317 Montana Ave.

Venture Improv has been making audiences laugh for over 20 years. Venture Improv is led by Kevin Schweigert and includes Catherine Langlas Bergman, Sevyn Burrell, Tucker Downs, DeLaney Hardy, Michael McCallum, Tiffany Melia, Matthew Melia, Will Thomas and Danielle Turtainen.

In this round Schweigert, Langlas Bergman, Downs, Thomas and Matthew Melia will compete.

The Improverts have been performing for three years at the Verge Theater in Bozeman on Monday nights. They pair the fun and energy of short-form games like you would see on “Whose Line is it Anyway?” with long-form scenes where they create hilarious characters and story lines on the spot.

The Improverts includes Paige Johnson, Beezy Noone, Eb Love, Danielle Thomson, Molly Hannan, John Townsend-Mehler, Bennet Drozic and Kent Davis.

Missoula's Gingers on Ice describe their comedy as “irreverent and absurd,” character sketches. The team, formerly known as Gingers and Spice, currently hold the golden peacock from 2016’s Improv Open.
