In advance of the upcoming opera, "Blodwen," staged by Rimrock Opera Foundation and NOVA Center for the Performing Arts, professional opera singers from Wales, the United Kingdom, and the United States will perform operatic numbers on Sunday at Cisel Recital Hall, starting at 2 p.m. in an event titled “Met to Broadway.”
Vocal selections include popular Opera Arias and Broadway tunes from composers Mozart, Strauss, Gershwin, Heggie, and more.
The event is hosted by Douglas Nagel, a professional opera singer and associate professor at Montana State University Billings with piano accompaniment by Dr. Paula Fan from the University of Arizona.
Guests will hear the lead singers of the Welsh opera "Blodwen" including sopranos Janie Sutton and Kayla Mudgett, mezzos Katelyn Meyer, Nerys Jones, and Michele Berger, tenors Aaron Walker, Benjamin Meyer and Scott Wichel, and baritones Kieran Beebe and Jeremy Huw Williams. Dr. Dulais Rhys, conductor for "Blodwen," will preview a chorus selection from the opera.
The event is free and open to the public. Donations to NOVA Center for the Performing Arts will be accepted.
"Blodwen" will take place May 10, 11, 18 and 19 at NOVA with Friday and Saturday night performances at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. The opera is performed in Welsh with English supertitles.
