Plein air artists to exhibit works in Ucross

CROSS, Wyo. - "Kindred Spirits," an exhibition of paintings by Toby Birr, T. Allen Lawson, Mimi Litschauer and Geoff Parker, opens at the Ucross Foundation Art Gallery on Saturday with an artist reception from 4 to 6 p.m. The exhibit will be on view through Jan. 9.

The four artists share a dedication to plein air painting and have spent a great deal of time working throughout Wyoming, the Rocky Mountains and the High Plains, as well as Maine, Texas, Colorado and many other locales.

Lawson and Parker are both Wyoming natives; Lawson grew up in Sheridan and Parker was born in Cody. Their collaborative project, "Capturing the Missouri: Lewis and Clark Revisited," was shown at the Ucross Foundation Art Gallery in 2004. Birr has lived in Sheridan and Buffalo, and now lives in Dubois. Litschauer, who has lived and worked in the West for many years, lives near Big Bend National Park in west Texas. All four artists are represented by the Simpson Gallagher Gallery in Cody.

The Ucross Foundation Art Gallery is located at 30 Big Red Lane in Ucross, a half-mile east of the junction of Highways 14 and 16. Gallery hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Special hours are available by appointment. For information, call 307-737-2291 or e-mail info@ucross.org.
