Play "Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe." Mortal Kombat has teamed up with DC Comics for its first step onto the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The unexpected crossover has received mixed reactions from fans on both sides of the battle. Those not put off by the odd match-up have praised the game for its back-to-basics, 2D-feeling fighting mechanics, while others have criticized it for breaking with the traditional M rating the Mortal Kombat series is known for. All will be revealed Sunday when the game hits stores, and the world will finally know who would win in a fight, Sub-Zero or Batman. Watch a gameplay trailer on 501blog.com.

Go to the Carlin's big DJ show. Four "hometown kids" are reuniting on Saturday to tag-team sets on four turntables and two mixers in celebratory style. Bozeman's DJ Bones, Big Lou from Phoenix, Jimi Scott of Denver and Seattle's AutomaTTic are getting together for what is billed as "quite possibly the biggest show ever at the Carlin," as well as a nuptial party. Learn how to write about nature at the final session of the "Call of the Wild" writing workshops. Local poet Bernard Quetchenbach leads the workshop from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Stillwater County Library in Columbus.
The MSU Billings professor will help poets-writers find images and meanings in the natural world. I hate nature myself, what with all the insects and critters that want to eat me (see last week's pick, "Grizzly Man," for more on killer critters), which is why my poetry's no good.
To register, call the YMCA Writer's Voice at 248-1685, ext. 231, or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org. A number of scholarships for the class are available.
