Roost offers good old-fashioned Southern fried chicken in the heart of Bozeman. The original recipe hails from Lookout Valley, Tennessee, where the Darr family split up 19 hour days serving customers in a 70 seat restaurant. Roost is a reincarnation of that restaurant with a focus on fried chicken and other Southern classics, like Chicken and Waffles.
Suds Hut, Billings
For almost 40 years, the folks at Suds Hut have been serving classic Southern comfort food on Broadwater Avenue. You can expect friendly service when you go, but it’s the Suds Hut Broasted Chicken that will keep you coming back. Their broasted chicken has won numerous awards, including Readers’ Choice awards from the Billings Gazette.
Two Bit Saloon, Whitehall
This big taste of small town Montana has a Famous Chicken dinner that lives up to its name. Marinated chicken strips are breaded with their own special concoction of herbs and spices, fried and served with fries, chips or a salad.
The Chicken Shack, Butte KOA
Fried chicken and camping go together like summer and sunshine, so it makes sense that some of Montana’s finest is served at Butte’s KOA Campground. The onsite Chicken Shack is located next to the office, and they’re open all year. This spot is so well-loved by locals that they’ve been known to get orders for hundreds of pieces of chicken at a time.
