Tipsy Cupcake

Holly Moncada serves up a trio of cupcakes last week at Tipsy Cupcake, which is next door to Shiloh 10. The cafe takes its name from the signature cupcake, which has pink champagne in the frosting.

Lines of customers formed outside the doors when the Tipsy Cupcake opened for business on Jan. 10.

Owner Kari Jones picked a good location, right next to Shiloh 14 Theater on Shiloh Road.

Cupcakes are so hot right now. Employee Holly Moncada said the idea was to bring big city cupcakes to Billings. The cafe has T-shirts with a logo designed by Jones, who is also a photographer. They also feature hot tea and hot chocolate along with six varieties of cupcakes. Cupcakes are $3 each or $30 for a dozen and the offerings change periodically.

I wanted to taste test my way through the whole assortment when I went in last week. I settled on the black tie cupcake because it was piled high with frosting and chunks of Oreo cookies.

One of my companions got the shop's signature cupcake, the pink champagne, which Moncada said is the most popular choice at Tipsy Cupcake. It is a pink strawberry cupcake topped with a creamy frosting turned pink by the pink champagne in it. It really does melt in your mouth. We also sampled a red velvet cupcake with cream cheese frosting.

On Thursday, they were featuring the turtle cupcake, which is a chocolate cupcake with butter cream frosting topped with toasted pecans.
