Celtica, a Celtic rock band from Austria, is playing at Bones Brewery on Saturday, Sept. 8 as part of a tour of Canada and the U.S.
Celtica includes bagpipers from Scotland and California. They are performing at outdoor festivals and clubs across North America.
The Billings show will be the first U.S. show in the band’s history. From Billings, they will play shows in Nebraska and Kansas, where Celtica will headline for three days at a Scottish festival. From there the band flies to the East Coast where the New Hampshire Gathering of Clans will be the highlight of the tour.
During the recording of the band’s second album, which began in October 2011, the first requests from American promoters came in and previously discussed plans for a U.S. tour became more realistic. Heading across the Atlantic was one reason that Celtica named its album, “Oceans of Fire.”
“We were aware that the preparations would be as major a challenge as the tour itself – a challenge we were all eager to face,” explains Gajus Stappen, the band leader.
An echo of this challenge can be seen in the title and the cover picture of the new album, which shows the Celtica ship fighting its way through a sea of fire.
Gwendolen Rowe, the female Celtica piper from California, looked forward to going home.
“Though I love being in Europe and especially in Austria with its amazing culture, I am very excited about touring my home country with the band,” she said.
