Cherish the Ladies

Virtuoso playing, beautiful vocals and lively step dancing come to the ABT stage Saturday with a performance by Cherish the Ladies.

The Grammy-nominated, Irish-American Celtic supergroup Cherish the Ladies is scheduled to perform Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the Alberta Bair Theater.

Cherish the Ladies’ Irish Homecoming is part of the First Interstate Bank Fox Series. Tickets are $32 or $17 for students with a valid ID and are available at the Alberta Bair Theater box office on the corner of Third Avenue North and Broadway, by phone at 406-256-6052, Rimrock Mall or online at www.albertabairtheater.org.

Cherish the Ladies formed in New York City in 1985 to celebrate the rise of women in what had been a male-dominated Irish music scene. They have since toured the world, played the White House and the Olympics and recorded 15 albums, including their latest live recording, “An Irish Homecoming.” The video recorded for a public television special and broadcast in North America won an Emmy award.

Under the leadership of flute and whistle champion Joanie Madden, who recently became the first Irish traditional musician to win the USA Fellowship Award, the ladies create an evening that includes a blend of virtuoso instrumental talents, beautiful vocals, and step dancing.

For this tour, Madden is joined by Mary Coogan, guitar; Mirella Murray, accordion; and Kathleen Boyle, piano and harmony vocals. Special guest performers at the ABT show are Maura O’Connell, Liz Knowles (fiddle) and world champion step dancers Jason Oremus, Garrett Coleman, Deirdre Robinett and Caitlin Golding.
