The University of Montana’s Jazz Band I is performing a free show Thursday evening at Yellowstone Valley Brewing Co. as part of a statewide tour.
It is UM’s 42nd jazz band tour. Kung Fu Kongress, a funk group made up of some of the jazz band’s members, will open the show at 6 p.m.
Performances by the UM Jazz Band I will include Whitehall High School, Bozeman High School (Grace Bible Church venue), Sweetgrass County High School in Big Timber, and Skyview High at 11:15 a.m. on Jan. 20 and Senior High at 2 p.m. Jan. 20.
The UM students and their director, Lance Boyd, will also conduct clinics in the schools as part of the UM Jazz Program outreach mission. The tour is sponsored by the Associated Students of the University of Montana and the UM School of Music. All events are open and free to the public.
Music performed by the UM Jazz Band will include many traditional big band favorites along with contemporary selections featuring modern jazz and rock styles. Student soloists will highlight the concert with performances.
