Flamenco-jazz guitarist Johnny Walker, progressive folk duo Earthshine and improvisational instrumental duo Ben Klein and Jake Fleming will perform May 31 at the Yellowstone Art Museum and June 1 at the Fieldhouse Cafe.
The music will be Friday from 5:30 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon. The idea is to provide a preview for the 2013 Renaissance Faire and Highland Games, which will be held at ZooMontana on July 26-28.
Friday night’s Jam at the YAM will be rechristened Ren Jam, as both flamenco-jazz guitarist Johnny Walker and progressive folk duo Earthshine will perform in the museum courtyard. A cappella ballad singing and medieval poetry reading will be interspersed throughout the evening. There will also be a few opportunities to join in on some medieval-style drinking songs.
On Saturday morning, the Morning Folk music series at the Fieldhouse Café features improvisational instrumental duo Ben Klein and Jake Fleming from Bozeman. Klein, who plays flute, is one-third of Trillian Green, the opening night headlining group at this year’s RenFaire. Fleming is known for his work with the Jeni Fleming Trio and Pinky & the Floyd. Jake plays guitar, bass guitar, keys and computer looping with drum sounds.
The series is produced by MusEco Media and Education Project, a Billings nonprofit.
