Josh Toomey, bassist with Primer 55, has spent a large portion of the band's reunion tour in the Southern states.
"The last part of our tour is all Seattle, Montana, Vegas," he said in a telephone interview with The Gazette this week. He was strolling Sunset Strip in Los Angeles while he talked. "We're about to take our glam rock tour of L.A.," he said.
The alternative metal band will perform at the Billings Heights F.O.E. on Wednesday, Dec. 19, shortly before returning to their homes for the Christmas holiday.
Primer 55 was formed in 1997 in Memphis, Tenn. After several changes in lineup - Toomey is one of the most recent comers to the band - Primer 55 left its label, Island/Def Jam, in 2002, and broke up shortly afterward. The current lineup, in addition to Toomey, includes guitarists Bobby Burns (from Soulfly) and Billy Grey, vocalist Heath Joyce and drummer Frank Fontsere.
"Early this year, we decided to give it another go, see how it goes," Toomey said.
The group decided to reunite after an offer to put out a best-of DVD and rarities CD.
"We called each other up, e-mailed each other the set list," Toomey said. "We all still knew the old stuff from back in the day."
Toomey is looking forward to returning to Billings, remembering the band's last performance in 2002 as "one of the better shows of the tour." He's also glad to be working with his old bandmates again.
"It's great. I missed them," he said. "It's good to see everybody again. The shows have been really fun. It's been good to see all the fans, too. The fans have stuck around. It's fun because the towns we're going to, a lot of the fans missed us the first time around because they were too young."
Performing with Primer 55 at the F.O.E. show will be Love Said No and local bands Zen in Zion, Kancerus and Shakefist. Tickets to the 18-and-over show are $10 in advance, $15 at the door. Doors open at 7 p.m.
