What to watch for:

  • Sex traffickers frequently target vulnerable persons with a history of abuse and then use violence threats, lies and false promises or other methods of control and manipulation to keep victims involved in the sex industry
  • Sex trafficking commonly exists within the commercial sex trade at a higher rates than most people realize
  • Sex trafficking has been found in a wide variety of venues within the sex trade, including massage parlors, strip clubs, residential brothers, online escort services


  • No identification or identification held by another person
  • Minor with unrelated adults, who are not age appropriate for them
  • Reported to be missing or chronically runs away
  • Possession of sexual paraphernalia, like condoms, lubrication, or baby wipes
  • Engaged in non-traditional travel, living out of a backpack or suitcase in motels or vehicles
  • Few or no personal possessions
  • Excessive unexcused absences from school
  • Makes references to frequent travel to other cities and states
