Hannelore and Ervin Sharbono, of Silesia, marked their 60th anniversary.
Hannelore Kanngiesser and Ervin Sharbono were married Nov. 7, 1957, in Mannheim, Germany.
The couple met while Ervin was stationed with the U.S. Army in Germany. Neither could speak the other's native language, so they spent their courtship and first several months of marriage communicating with the help of English/German dictionaries. After living on the family farm near Lambert, and in Sidney, Baker and Billings, the couple settled on a small farm outside of Park City, where they raised their five children.
Ervin worked for Cenex Oil for 35 years and retired in 1998. He often worked as a custom baler. He coached junior high basketball and served on the Park City School Board for two terms. He also taught hunter safety courses. Ervin was one of the founders of SUMCO Oil.
Hannelore frequently worked as a waitress, primarily for the Skyview Terrace and Holiday Inn Restaurants/Banquets. She also owned a successful knitting business, Winterknit Fashions by Hannelore.
In 1979, the couple sold their small farm and moved to Laurel. A few years later, they purchased a motor home and traveled to visit family and friends — most often, their grandchildren. In 1988, they decided to move back to the country and purchased a farm near Silesia.
In addition to five children, the couple has nine grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
