Agnes De Groat and family came to Billings in January 1958 from Highland Park, N.J. A daughter of George and Mary Kozich, she was born June 18, 1923, in Plains, Pa. She died at the age of 88 on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012.
Agnes was a graduate of Plains Memorial High School, Kings County Hospital Center School of Nursing and Hunter College in New York City, where she received her RN. She worked for many years as a registered nurse in New York. Agnes also worked as a licensed real estate broker in Billings.
Agnes had a lifelong love of learning. She was an avid reader and frequently clipped magazine and newspaper articles that interested her. She passed them on to her children and grandchildren so that they could also keep learning. She loved to travel and visited many countries around the world with the Global Grannies and other good friends and traveling companions.
She enjoyed the company of many wonderful friends, particularly the "Golden Girls" who provided her with companionship and lots of laughs for many years.
Preceding Agnes in death was her son, David, and brother, George.
Agnes is survived by her daughter, Dorothy; sons, Pieter (Michele) and Charles (Patty); and grandchildren, Alec and Madeleine De Groat and Hank De Groat. Agnes is also survived by her cousin and longtime friend, Bette Bednarik.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at St. Vincent Healthcare, St. John's Transitional Care Cottage and RiverStone Hospice for their compassionate care of Agnes.
Cremation has taken place. A remembrance gathering will be held on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Hilands Golf Club, 714 Poly Drive. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to the charity of your choice.
