Al Pederson, 72, of Billings, passed away Wednesday afternoon, May 14, 2003, at St. Vincent Healthcare.
Al was born on Sept. 6, 1930, in Minnesota, a son of Carl and Anna (Melby) Pederson. He left home at an early age and was an over-the-road truck driver for many years.
Around 1970, Al settled in the Huntley area, where he met Lois Nordahl. In December of 1977, they were married in Cody, Wyo. Together, they owned and operated the Huntley Bar for five years, where they made many friends. After selling the bar, Al and Lois enjoyed camping and fishing. Al worked two years for Myrhe Outdoor Advertising.
In 1984, they moved to the Fort Smith area, where they enjoyed fishing the Bighorn before moving to Billings in 1992 for retirement. Al was an avid TV fan of "old westerns."
Survivors include his brothers, Richard of Billings, Phillip (Jackie) of Onamia, Minn., and Gary of Minneapolis; a sister, Ione Wadnizak of Fridley, Minn. Along with his wife Lois, Al was known as "Pa" and "Grandpa" to Sally and Jerry Best of Phoenix, Dale Stoll of Huntley, Stan S. (Christy) Stoll of Shepherd, Sharon (Jim) Amsk of Livingston; a daughter-in-law, Denise Stoll of Mesa, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and five brothers.
Cremation is planned and a private family service will be held. Smith Downtown Chapel is assisting with arrangements.
