Allen Arthur Stedman was born Jan. 15, 1918, in Berg, now Keene, N.D., to parents Earl and Agnes (Brown) Stedman. Allen grew up on his parents' farm in the Keene area and attended school through the eighth grade. He helped his father on the farm and worked for other area farmers. In 1941, he graduated from Wahpeton (N.D.) State School of Science. He was trained in painting and auto body work. He then moved to Sidney, where he was employed at Kincaid and Yoder Motors.
On Aug. 10, 1946, Allen was united in marriage to Marjorie Monsen at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Sidney. The newlyweds made their home in Sidney until the late 1950s. At that time, they moved to Miles City and Allen worked for Frank's Body Shop. After three years in Miles City, they moved back to Sidney and Allen resumed working for Yoder motors. While he was working there, Yoder Motors became Larson Motors. Allen worked there for 35 years, until illness forced him to retire. Allen and Marjorie raised six children.
