Andrew G. “Andy” Black, 79, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 18, 2018 at Billings Clinic. He was born on Sept. 22, 1939 in Cowley, Wyoming, the middle child of Andrew Elmer and Louise Gase Black.
The family moved to Bridger when Andy was 6 years old. Andy attended school in Bridger graduating in 1957.
Andy married Elaine Schmidt on Aug. 21, 1982. A special highlight of their 36-year marriage was a cruise to Alaska for their 25th wedding anniversary.
The majority of Andy’s working career was in wholesale sporting goods retiring from Acu-Sports (Sportsmen’s Supply) in January of 2002 after 33 years of service.
Andy enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and playing card games on the computer. Andy was a member of Mayflower Congregational UCC, a 50 year member of Lions Clubs International (serving as District Governor in 2003), a board member of Frontier Communities and a volunteer at the Billings Area Chamber of Commerce Visitor Center. When working at the Visitor Center Andy joked that he could tell people where to go and how to get there!
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Jim and sister Leoda.
Survivors include his wife, Elaine; sisters, Eva Belcher of Bridger and Anita (Jim) Perkins of Fromberg; and numerous nieces and nephews who loved him very much.
Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2018, 10:30 a.m., at Mayflower Congregational Church. Reception will follow at the church. Arrangements are in the care of Smith Funeral Chapels and condolences may be shared with the family by visiting smithfuneralchapels.com.
