Betty Briceno, age 92, has gone to join our Heavenly Father on Aug. 27, 2009, peacefully at her home, where she was surrounded by loved ones.
Betty Briceno was born on Nov. 19, 1916, in Golden, Mont., to Frank and Theresa Slehofer. She was one of 10 children. Betty later, at the age of 22, married her loving husband, Jose Briceno Jr. They shared a family with their two children, Phillip and Rebecca. Betty also enjoyed being an active member in various groups such as The Friendship House, South Park Senior Citizens Center, Salvation Army and the Southside Task Force. Betty loved reading her books and watching the people pass from her porch at her South Side home. She also devoted her time to being a wonderful mother and grandmother. She was caring and compassionate, and everyone who met her loved her and had a friend for life. She was the rock of our family, which she helped grow to five generations.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jose and all her brothers and sisters. She is survived by her two children, Phillip Joseph Briceno of Belgrade; her daughter, Rebecca Guadalupe Silva of Billings; and eight grandchildren, Poncho, Danita, Jessica, Josh, Tiffany, Felicia, Inez and Rebecca Jr.; along with 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
We all love you more than anything and we will deeply miss you. None of us could have been blessed with a better mother, grandmother or friend.
A vigil service will be 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 30, at Smith's Downtown Chapel. Funeral mass will be 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 31, at her parish, Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Cremation will follow and, at a later date, she will be laid to rest alongside her husband, Jose Briceno.
