Bob Mehling 74, passed away at home after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Bob was born May 2 1936, to John and Esther Mehling in Hardin. Bob married Marilyn Ferrell and raised his family of four children on a ranch north of Hardin. In 1980 they divorced and he married Penny Worm. In 1982 Bob and Penny bought and operated a Dude Ranch in Clark, Wyo. They then moved to Miles City in 1989. For the next 20 years they worked on various ranches in the Powder River area. Bob had many successes in life. While in the Army on his overseas assignment to Iceland, he taught the Special Forces mountain survival, cross country skiing and rock climbing. In 1964 he won the team roping championship in the Northern Rodeo Cowboys Association. He joined the PRCA in 1980 as a single steer roper. He acquired an outfitter's license in both Montana and Wyoming. But his greatest passion was raising and racing quarter horses. Bob loved life, his horses and was a Cowboy's Cowboy.
Bob is survived by his children, Craig (Jennifer) Mehling, Shari (Sam) Stone, Jill (Brian) Payne, Dusty Mehling; 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, and siblings John Mehling Jr and Sharon Ragland. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Esther, his son, Mike Mehling, and his sister, Beverly A. Mehling.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 29, at Smith Downtown Chapel, located at 925 S. 27 St. Interment will follow at the Fairview Cemetery in Hardin.
