Ahmba u wea (Coming Morning Woman)
WOLF POINT - Brita Murdock McNabb lost her courageous battle with cancer on May 18, 2002, at the Northeast Mon-tana Health Ser-vices facility in Wolf Point.
Brita was born on Nov. 23, 1934 to Wesson and Rose Mur-dock six miles west of Wolf Point out in the country where her parents lived. The midwife was Brita Gordon. She grew up in the country and later moved to Wolf Point with her parents. She attended school in Wolf Point and Browning. In 1956, she met the love of her life, Arvin McNabb Sr., and they spent the next 45 years together. Arvin was her deeply and devoted companion up to the end.
Brita worked for the Fort Peck Tribes for 31 years until retiring from ill health in 2000. She worked at the A & S Industries when it first opened in 1969. She also worked as an outreach worker in 1971.
She enjoyed her family very much and loved to be around them. She had a great sense of humor. Brita loved to plant flowers, garden, go out into the country and look at scenery, play Pac-man, listen to her Indian and Country Western tapes and she loved to go shopping. She also enjoyed attending church. Brita was one of the last tribal members that spoke the old Assiniboine language. Her knowledge will be greatly missed.
Brita was a joy to her family who loved and cherished her. She will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Eva Freeman, Anne Remick and Jean Arlene; and one brother David Garfield.
Survivors include her husband, Arvin McNabb Sr. of Wolf Point; three children, Arvin McNabb Jr. of Great Falls, Linda Collins of Havre and her baby (KRM) Karen McNabb of Wolf Point; four grandchildren, Derek McNabb of Wolf Point whom she raised, Michelle McNabb of Wolf Point, George Belcourt of Havre and Stephanie Collins of Havre; two great-grandchildren Malia McNabb and Kristen Belcourt; numerous nieces and nephews.
