LOVELL, Wyo. - Charles "Swede" Olson, of Lovell, passed away in Las Vegas on Nov. 15, 2008. He fought the good fight against cancer for two years, but finally lost the battle.
Swede was born on Oct. 6, 1933, in Davey, Neb., the son of Carl and Anne Langdon Olson. He graduated from Ceresco High School in 1951. Swede served in the U.S. Marine Corp.
Swede worked in construction and, when in Lovell building the Great Sugar Western Towers, he met and married Mollie Gams on Aug. 10, 1962. To this union were born two sons, James Charles of Bullhead City, Ariz., and John Henry of Phoenix.
Swede worked for Great Western/Western Sugar for 27 years. He retired in 1996. Swede was known for always building something. There was nothing he couldn't fix. After retirement, they purchased a motor home and spent many months on the road, later spending winter months in Bullhead City, Ariz., where he could be close to his two grandchildren, Zack and Taylor.
Swede enjoyed camping, golfing (especially Friday afternoon golfers) and being with his many friends.
Swede is survived by his wife, Mollie of Lovell; sons Jim (Jan) and John (Lindsey); grandchildren Zack and Taylor; sisters Margaret Ann, Mary Lu, Marlene and Gerri; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Tom and Sharon Cornwall and their sons, Chris (Anita) and Carson (Tonya); and many nieces and nephews.
