LEWISTOWN - Clara R. Geary, age 90, and her son, Tommy Allen Geary, died in a tragic motor home accident near Anahauc, Texas, on Dec. 3, 2003.

Clara was born July 21, 1913, at Bridger, the oldest child of John and Alma Thormahlen Rekdal. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church. She received her education in Bridger, graduating as valedictorian in 1929.

She married Albert Geary Nov. 28, 1932, in Lewistown. They made their home, along with his three children, on a ranch on Upper Flatwillow Creek. Their son, Tom, was born Nov. 7, 1938. They moved to Pompey's Pillar in the mid-'50s where they resided for a few years before returning to the ranch. When Albert's health began to fail in the mid '60s, they moved to Lewistown. Her husband died in May, 1968.

Clara began working as a housekeeper at the St. Joseph's Hospital and then the Central Montana Hospital, retiring at the age of 65.

Despite hard times and hardship, she loved ranch life and enjoyed nature to its fullest. Her home was always open to family and friends. Family was very important to Clara. She especially loved children. Each of her grandchildren, nieces and nephews was precious to her. Marriages and the birth of babies were special events.

She was a great storyteller. Clara enjoyed crossword puzzles, good books and good TV. She was very knowledgeable about world events. Her home was filled with plants and flowers, likewise her yard. She walked everywhere - to work, to shop, for pleasure. She was a most generous and caring person and a good neighbor.

After her retirement, her son, Tom, took her to Europe twice. One highlight was visiting the birthplace of her dad in Norway and getting acquainted with cousins.

Survivors include grandson, Rick (Robyn) Geary and their son, Holden, of Laguna Beach, Calif.; stepson, Bert "Bud" Geary of Grass Range; step-daughter, Lorraine Thayer Randall of Forest Grove; a half-brother, Hank (Janie) Geary of Sedro Woolley, Wash.; a step-brother, Ben (Rose) Geary of Canada; eight step-grandchildren, Mary Lou Moran, Bill Geary, Ed Geary, John Thayer, Ruth Thayer Wicks, Charles Harris, Bill Tan and Wilbert Dalzell and their families; two sisters-in-law: and many nieces and nephews.
