HARDIN — Dorothy Lucille Hardy, 88, of Hardin, passed away Tuesday evening, Dec. 15, 2009, in the Big Horn County Memorial Hospital.
She was born March 8, 1921, in Dumont, Iowa, a daughter of Harold and Lela Hershey Anderson. She grew up and received her education in Iowa, receiving a two-year teaching certificate from the Iowa State Teacher College. She later completed her bachelor degree in elementary education from Upper Iowa University. She taught school for 10 years, before her retirement.
Dorothy married Warren Hardy on Aug. 22, 1942, in Ozark, Ala. The couple recently celebrated 67 years of marriage. They moved to Hardin in 1974 and purchased the KOA campground, which they operated for 32 years.
She was an active community individual who was a member of the First Baptist Church, past president of the Big Horn Hospital Auxiliary and was an instrumental member of the Big Horn Hospital Foundation Board who actively engaged in fundraising for the facility.
Dorothy enjoyed quilting and watching Hardin basketball and volleyball.
Her parents and three children, Daniel, Linda and Steve, preceded Dorothy in death.
Survivors include her husband, Warren; her sons, Jim (Sharon), Mark, Tim and Joel (Gloria) Hardy; two sisters, Betty Morgan and Maxine Muether; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place in the Bullis Eastern Montana Crematory. Memorial funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 22, in the First Baptist Church. Inurnment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery. Bullis Mortuary has been entrusted with the arrangements.
