Dorreen M. Papez, age 86, of Billings, formerly of Red Lodge, passed away at Billings Health and Rehabilitation on Saturday, Nov.13, 2010.
Dorreen was born March 26, 1924, in Miles City, to Myron Eugene and Ruth Timmons. After graduating from high school, she worked at the Singer Sewing Center and taught sewing classes in the evenings. Also, she was a checker at the Safeway Store in Miles City.
She married Marion Miles Hartman in 1942 and gave birth to a daughter, Marla Gay Quiley Hartman on Dec. 23, 1942. This marriage ended in 1959. Dorreen married Kirby Clyne Rattliff in 1962 and they ranched in the Miles City area until his death in 1973.
While volunteering at the VA Hospital in Miles City, Dorreen met her future husband, Joe Papez in 1975. She moved to Red Lodge to share their journey until his death on June 3, 2008.
Dorreen enjoyed sewing, crocheting, various crafts, snowmobiling, traveling and family gatherings.
Dorreen is survived by her sister, Nadine Ketterling of Gillette, Wyo.; two brothers, Myron Eugene Timmons of Conifer, Colo., and Norman Harmon Timmons of Bozeman; her daughter, Marla Burks of Missoula; two grandsons, William Blake Burks of Plains, Mont., and Bruce Todd Burks of Albuquerque, N.M.; four great-grandchildren, Tim Burks of Buckley, Wash., Bethany Burks of Corpus Christi, Texas, Sean Burks of Albuquerque, N.M., and Caroline Burks of Ann Arbor, Mich.; two great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17, at Smith-Olcott Funeral Chapel in Red Lodge. Interment will follow in the Red Lodge Cemetery.
The family would like to extend its gratitude to the staff of RiverStone Health and Billings Health and Rehabilitation for the care they gave Dorreen.
