Born Edith Modesta Brubaker in Des Moines, Iowa, July 7, 1916, Edith Lyall passed away Monday morning, Nov. 3, 2008, at St. Johns Lutheran Home in Billings.
At the start of WWII, Edith married Merwin Edwin Lyall shortly before his Army unit was sent to the South Pacific. She would work in Washington, D.C., for the duration of the war. After the war, Merwin and Edith returned to Des Moines, where he would build a career with the U.S. Department of Agriculture while she was a homemaker and mother of two sons. The couple moved to Billings in 1967, and created a new life with many new friends and contacts.
Edith is survived by sons Dennis Lyall of Norwalk, Conn., and Roger Lyall of Billings; granddaughters Loretta C. Lyall of Miami, Nicholle Pendergraft of Cedar Park, Texas, and Sara Lyall of Ontario, Canada; and by dear friends Ronald and Sandra Maul of Billings. Her husband Merwin preceded her in death.
Cremation has taken place and a service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7, at the Smith West Chapel, 304 34th St. West. Interment will be next to Merwin at Terrace Gardens Cemetery.
