Edwin “Ed” Jirges, 82, passed away at St. Vincent Healthcare, surrounded by his loving family, on May 8, 2013.
Edwin was born near New Hradec, N.D., on Dec. 22, 1930, to Mary (Faiman) and Fred Jirges.
Edwin and Cecelia Krank were married on Dec. 31, 1951. They lived on the family farm until moving to Billings in 1954. Ed was an over-the-road truck driver while in Billings, working for Kraft Foods and Consolidated Freightways, retiring in 1993.
Ed was a hard worker and was always busy until his health failed. He enjoyed the outdoors, camping, fishing, hiking with his family. He enjoyed woodworking, making patio furniture, birdhouses and feeders.
He is survived by his wife, Cecelia; children Renee (Frank) Buzzetti, Lyle Jirges, Karen (Darryl) Shrum, Alton (Brenda) Jirges; five grandchildren, Chris, Eric, Amber, Tom, Sarah; and one great-grandchild, Olivia Grace.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Fred Jirges; sisters Edith, Dorothy and brother Alfred; baby son Edwin and son Mark.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Saturday, May 11, and beginning at noon on Sunday, May 12, at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary, 1001 Alderson Ave. A vigil rosary will be at 7 p.m. Sunday, at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary. A funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. Monday, May 13, at St. Pius X Church, corner of 18th Street West and Yellowstone Avenue. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery at St. Pius Church.
Ed was a charter member of St. Pius X Church.
