Pete died suddenly and unexpectedly on April 7, 2019 at St. Vincent Healthcare due to complications from a dental procedure. He was born in Missoula to Edwin and Edith Hilger. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Dillon where he was raised and developed his passion for fishing and camping. He graduated from MSU in Mechanical Engineering where he met many lifelong friends through school and the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. His first job took him to Portland, Oregon, but he returned to Dillon in 1960 to marry Dottie Andersen. They eventually moved to Salt Lake City. When his National Guard unit was activated during the Berlin Crisis they lived in Olympia, Washington, for a year. They found their way back to Montana in 1964, residing in Billings. He was a partner in Con'eer Engineering until his retirement in 1994. Pete thoroughly loved tending to his large garden, fishing, camping, skiing, and traveling, with many of these activities shared with his many friends and family. He also was known to be able to fix anything, and he liked to stay busy.
He is survived by his wife Dottie; his daughter Ann (Jerry) Jones; his son Jim; his brother Dave (Sherry) and his nieces and nephew, Carolyn, Mari and Eddy.
A celebration of life will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, April 11, 2019 at First Presbyterian Church in Billings at 2420 13th Street West.
