Betts passed away on Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008, from kidney failure. She was born on Aug. 3, 1932, in Oil City, Pa., to William J. Murdoch and Doris C. (Getz) Murdoch. Her family moved to Winifred, Mont., in 1943. They moved to Harlowton in 1945. She graduated from Harlowton High School in 1950. She worked for Mountain Bell. In January, 1955, she married Ernest L. Evenson. They had six children together. They later divorced. She spent the rest of her life raising her children and any others who needed help.
She was a very funny, loving, giving person. Laughter is the best medicine, and she lived her whole life on that thought. She worked at various places but they always involved talking. If she didn't know you, she talked until she could find a piece that would link you to someone she knew. She loved to interview people. She was loved very much and will be deeply missed by all she touched. She was a great mother and person.
We love you, Mom.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Jim Murdoch.
She is survived by her children, Roxanne and Ron Strehlow of Denver, Mark and Laurie Evenson of Great Falls; and Mischelle and Larry Fahn, Mike and Tami Evenson, Dan Evenson and Pat and Shelly Evenson, all of Billings; her sister, Jean Harms and nephew, Jay Harms, of Billings; her 13 grandchildren, Jennifer, Larry Allen, Amy, Desarae, Erika, Eddy, Danielle, Maddy, Bailey Boo, Zach, Sam, Max and Joe; and five great-grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, at the Cremation and Funeral Gallery, 29 Eighth St. W. Private burial will be in Harlowton at a later date.
