Ellenor "Elly" Marie Kleppe, 87, of Billings, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2008, at St. John's Lutheran Nursing Home.
Elly was born Sept. 27, 1921, and raised on a farm near Kintyre, N.D., daughter of Rasmus and Martha Kleppe. She graduated from Kintyre High in 1939 and attended State University in Valley City, N.D., receiving her bachelor of science degree in 1957. She did post-graduate at MSU in Billings. Miss Kleppe taught school for 10 years in North Dakota, in Steele and Jamestown. While in Steele, she also was PE Instructor and Drama Coach of junior and senior high school. She moved to Billings in 1950 and taught in various schools in District 2. She retired in 1985, after 45 years of teaching.
Elly enjoyed her home, entertaining friends, and she was very proud of her Norwegian heritage. She made many trips to Norway. She was a charter member of Jutunheimen Lodge, Sons of Norway, and served in several official duties, including serving as president of the local lodge for two years. She also served as Sunshine Chairman of the lodge for several years. She was a member of American Lutheran Church.
Her parents and two brothers, Olav and Ross, preceded her in death.
Survivors are her sister, Astrid (Orville) Helmle and nephew Dennis Helmle of Soquel, Calif.; niece Ruthie (Dan) Barker, Kayle and Kevin of Santa Cruz, Calif.; sister-in-law Irene Kleppe, niece Jennifer (Randy) Schumacher and Justin and Jerrod of Napoleon, N.D.; nephew James (Brenda) Kleppe and Sarah of Phoenix. She is also survived by a host of friends.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, at American Lutheran Church, with interment in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be given to the Anne Carlson School in Jamestown, N.D.
