Entering the kingdom of Heaven, Francis Lutgen passed away Friday, Sept. 7, after 94 years of serving God, his country, and his family. We will miss him always.
Frances was born on March 2, 1918, in Wheat Basin. The son of Theodore Lutgen and Mary Theisen, Frances joined the Army, February 1941 and served until Sept. 1945. He was in the South Pacific during World War II. He married Lorraine White on Nov. 3, 1945, in South Dakota before moving to Billings. He and his bride enjoyed 59 wonderful years together and they had six children, 25 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Lorraine, his daughter Mary, great-granddaughter Christine, brothers Ernest and Leonard and sister Agnes.
He is survived by his daughters Laverne Moore from Portland, Margie Shea (Tom) of Billings, Irene Thurston of Billings; son Tom Lutgen (Laurie) of Columbia Falls; and Joan (Jerry) O’Dell of Fort Wayne, Ind.
He enjoyed bowling, fishing and playing bridge. We will miss the beautiful sound of his whistling. He was a man of few words but those few words were filled with wisdom and love.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Montana Rescue Mission.
Viewing will be Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Cremation and Funeral Gallery at 29 S. Eighth St. W. in Billings. Graveside services will be Tuesday, Sept. 11, at 2 p.m. at the Laurel Cemetery.
