Gertrude "Gertie" Heiser, age 91, said goodnight to her husband on New Year’s Day, and woke peacefully in heaven on Jan. 2, 2019.
Born in Wishek, North Dakota, on July 18, 1927, to John and Linda Raile, Gertie married her high school sweetheart, Milton Heiser, and was blessed with 72 years of marriage and two beautiful daughters, Jennifer and Twila. Energetic, humorous, gentle, always smiling and willing to lend an ear, Gertie was in love with her family. As a child of the Great Depression, she was thrifty and resourceful – Gertie perfected the art of creating more from less. She lovingly sewed her daughters’ dresses, costumes and formal gowns and was an excellent, inventive cook. She loved exploring new recipes, saved anything useful, and kept her pantry stocked with essentials to whip up a delicious meal or dessert for any visitor.
Gertie loved games, puzzles, bowling on leagues and weekly shopping sprees. Her world was made brighter by six grandchildren whom she showered with love, music, laughter and treats. Gertie was very active, especially loved to dance, and taught her daughters to dance to Lawrence Welk tunes. Her family is comforted knowing that after 5 years of being wheelchair bound, she’s running and dancing again in heaven.
Gertie is survived by her devoted husband Milton Heiser, daughters and sons-in-law Jennifer (Skip) Burns and Twila (Jay) Frichtl. She will be loved, remembered and celebrated by her grandchildren Jessica Burns (Rob) Moore, Becca Burns, Calvin Burns, Hannah Frichtl (Kolby) McGarrah, Jonah (Marissa) Frichtl and Molly Frichtl; and her great-grandsons Gage and Krosby Moore. Preceding her in death are her parents, 8 brothers and sisters and 2 infant children, Ronny and Sandra.
A celebration of Gertie’s life will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 19, 2019, at Evangelical United Methodist Church with reception to follow. Please direct memorials to Evangelical United Methodist Church, 345 Broadwater, Billings, MT 59101, or Al Bedoo Shrine Hospital Transportation Fund, PO Box 20673, Billings, MT 59104.
