ABSAROKEE — Hazel Helen Arthun, 91, of Absarokee, died Friday, Jan. 27, 2012, in Laurel Health and Rehab Center in Laurel. Hazel was born in Killdeer, N.D., Dec. 23, 1920, the sixth child of Nels and Josephine (Starling) Nelson.
Hazel attended school in North Dakota during the depression years and went to Idaho to be with her sisters when she was 16. She read everything in sight and was a self-taught person. Hazel fulfilled one of her dreams to go to Jerusalem and to see and walk where her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ had walked. She spent her retirement years in Idaho, Laurel and Arizona, moving back to Montana in 2000.
Hazel is survived by her children, Olga (John) Blanchard of Buckeye, Ariz., Bertha (Vern) Spurgin of Absarokee, and Donald (Thale) Arthun of Absarokee; sister, Ethel Nelson of Laurel; grandchildren, Mike (Marylin) Blanchard, Diane (Steve) King, Tylea Spurgin, Lail Spurgin, Scott (Emily) Arthun, David (Kayce) Arthun, and eight great-grandchildren.
