POMONA, Calif. - Helen L. Rinker quietly and peacefully passed away Thursday, Oct. 23, 2008, at Claremont Care Center in Pomona.
She was born in Shannon City, Iowa, in 1912. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James G. Foster, moved to Ingomar, Mont., where they homesteaded. The family went to Billings in 1924 so she could go to high school. After school, she married Jack Owen. They moved to Oakland, where she lived most of her life.
She was a civil service employee, working 34 years as a procurement officer for the U.S. Army. In years past, Helen enjoyed camping, water skiing, square dancing, traveling and was active as an Amateur Radio Operator WB6YWC.
Helen was preceded in death by three husbands; her only daughter, Clarene Green; and one granddaughter, Cindy Williams. Helen is survived by two sons, Orville Owen of Diamond Bar and Norman Owen of Reno, Nev., and four grandsons, Steven Owen, Michael Owen, Brian Owen and Dennis Owen; eight great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Eloise Kirk of Billings; two nephews, John Kirk and Roger Kirk; and one niece, Barbara Kirk.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Nov. 10, at the Diamond Bar Evangelical Free Church, 3255 Diamond Bar Blvd., Diamond Bar.
