FEDERAL WAY, Wash. - Ione E. (Krapu) Hanson passed away on Thursday, May 8, 2003, in Federal Way.
Ione was born in Dicky County, N.D., on Jan. 20, 1920, to John and Aili Puholuto Krapu. Ione grew up in Fullerton, N.D., and later married Theron M. Hanson in Ellendale, N.D., on Aug. 12, 1939. In 1955, they moved to Billings, where they raised their two children, Judy and Jim, and helped to take care of many others.
She was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Billings. Ione found joy in baby-sitting, cooking for her family and spending time with many friends. Cooking and caring for family were Ione's major responsibilities in life. She did both willingly and with much joy. Her hobbies were playing pinochle and bingo. In 1990, they relocated to Mount Vernon, and after 55 years of marriage, Theron passed away in 1995. Ione eventually moved to Federal Way, where she lived in an assisted living community. Once again, she made many friends and happily spent her remaining years at Evergreen Lodge.
Survivors are one sister, Lillian Backley; her daughter, Judy Young and husband Bill; her son, Jim and wife Peggy; granddaughter Rebecca; and grandsons Richard and Andy. Ione was blessed with seven great-grandchildren and with many others who know her as "Mom." She will be greatly missed by everyone.
Funeral services were held on May 12, at Kern Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, with burial following in the Mount Vernon Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the Skagit Hospice Foundation, PO Box 1376 Mount Vernon, WA 98273-1376.
