GLENDIVE — Irene Helen (Hebner) Fox, 95, passed away peacefully at the Eastern Montana Veteran's Home, in Glendive on Monday, April 8, 2019.
Irene was born Dec. 29, 1923, to George and Katharina (Kraemer) Hebner in Fresno, California. The small family moved to Billings around 1938, and set up house-keeping on Boulder Avenue which was outside the city limits at that time. Irene resided in this general area the rest of her life, until she entered the Eastern Montana Veteran's Home in Glendive in 2012.
On Feb. 23, 1941, Irene married Herman Fox in Laurel. After Herman returned from US Army military service during World War II, the young couple built their home on Boulder Avenue, across the street from Irene's parents. By 1959, the couple had added three children to the family, son Herman Richard and daughters Mary Elizabeth and Victoria Susan.
Irene was a stay-at-home mother most all of her life. For a fairly short time, she worked outside of her home at the Snappy Food store. After construction of the Boulder Avenue grade school, Irene performed limited children's daycare services in her home for several years.
Irene enjoyed cooking, proud of the fact that no visitor ever left her home hungry. She also enjoyed sewing and crocheting, creating many textile treasures. Irene also enjoyed helping to raise her local grandchildren. Irene loved to grow and enjoy all varieties of flowers. She even seemed to enjoy stuffing sausage casings at the numerous wild game processing events.
Irene is survived by her son, Herman Richard of Billings; her daughter Mary Elizabeth of Bismarck, North Dakota; and her daughter, Victoria Susan of Billings. She also leaves three grandchildren: Danielle Cook of Phoenix, Katie Hauer of Helena and Holly Chouinard of Billings. Also surviving are five great-grandchildre: Abby and Brooke Hauer of Helena, Gallatin and Jackson Cook of Phoenix, and Isabella Chouinard of Billings.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents, George and Katharina Hebner, and her husband, Herman Fox.
The family would like to offer their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the staff of the Eastern Montana Veteran's Home for the wonderful care Irene received during her last years.
Funeral Service 10 a.m. Saturday April 13, 2019, at Remington Funeral Chapel, 420 19th Ave W, Laurel.
