HARLOWTON - James Arthur Gibson, Jr. passed away Nov. 13, 2008, after a brief stay at the Wheatland Memorial Hospital and Nursing Home. He was born July 9, 1913, in Castillia, Iowa, to James Arthur and Bertha Katherine Schuette Gibson. He met Dorothy Bird in Harlowton and they were married Nov. 4, 1937. From this union was born Karlene Olson Byers, Lorraine Gibson, Willie Crowley Swallow and Jackie Barlow.
Jim work on many ranches in the area and around Montana. He worked 17 years as a stationary brakeman in Harlowton. He also worked for Crown Zellarback in Washington. In his retirement, Jim still maintained his many projects, especially word working. His family is blessed with wooden puzzles, bean spoons and his famous Montana Boot saver canes. Jim was blessed with 20 grandchildren, Debi Pierce, Jerry Olson, Joan Brooke, James Olson, Jolene Chickering, Rodney Gibson, Tony Gibson, Colleen Shipp, Mark Crowley, Teresa Baumgartner, Kathy Crowley-Willham, Dan Crowley, Loren Swallow, Lorna Rash, Lucy Hagl, Babs Alcafaras, Monica Brodhum, Suzi Ballard, Tony Barlow, Jessie Barlow, Chuck Barlow (deceased). He had 39 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place and at Jim's request, there will be no memorial. A special thanks to the staff at Wheatland Memorial for their patience and for treating him with dignity and respect even when he could be difficult.
Jim was predeceased by both parents; his brothers, Lawrence, William, and a sister, Ollie; an infant son, Ralph Raymond; and daughters Willie and Lorraine; sons-in-law Dewey Olson and Duane Swallow. Cards can be sent to Dorothy at PO Box 789, Harlowton, MT 59036.
